National Smile Month!

According to NationalSmileMonth.org:

Originally known as National Smile Week, this smile-centric annual celebration was first started in the United Kingdom more than 30 years ago by the British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF).

In 1977, the Oral Health Foundation (then the British Dental Health Foundation) aimed to address an increasingly critical problem of how to get people to look after their teeth in a time when only one in three people had their natural teeth.

The project focused on the concept of preventative dentistry – a dramatically reformed outlook on oral healthcare at the time but one which 40 years on is seen as standard practice.

Makes sense, since an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

In 2009, National Smile Month was celebrated internationally for the first time when the BDHF and its international arm partnered with Oral Health America to bring the event to the United States.
